Art Classes at Studio Oso

A Brooklyn painting class for people who want to make something they actually like

Painting at Studio Oso is meant to feel creative, social, and low-pressure.

You don’t need to know how to paint. You don’t need to recreate a masterpiece perfectly. And you definitely don’t need to worry about whether your painting looks exactly like the person’s next to you.

Our painting classes in Brooklyn are designed to give you enough guidance to feel supported, while still leaving plenty of room to make something that feels like your own.

Some classes have a theme. Some are completely open-ended. Either way, the goal is the same: make something you’re excited to take home.

Our Approach to Painting

We started Studio Oso because we wanted a place where adults could try something creative without feeling like they had to already be good at it. That philosophy is at the center of our painting classes.

We’re not interested in forcing twenty people to recreate the exact same painting stroke for stroke. Inspiration is there if you want it, and instructors are around to help, but your painting does not have to look like anyone else’s.

Choose your colors. Change the composition. Simplify something. Add something weird. Ignore the reference completely and paint your own idea. It’s your canvas.

Beginner-Friendly Painting Classes in Brooklyn

Never painted before? Perfect.

Our classes are designed to be approachable for complete beginners, while still giving people with more experience room to experiment and create.

You do not need to know anything about acrylic paint, color mixing, brush techniques, or composition before walking in.

We provide the materials, inspiration, and guidance. You bring the willingness to try. At Studio Oso, there is no “bad at painting.” There is just figuring out what happens when you put paint on a canvas.

Paint With Oso

Paint with Oso is our laid-back BYOB painting class in Brooklyn. Think good music, good company, a canvas in front of you, and plenty of freedom to make the night your own.

Our instructors provide painting inspiration and are available throughout class to help with things like:

  • Mixing colors

  • Choosing brushes

  • Building your composition

  • Creating texture

  • Fixing something you don’t love

  • Figuring out where to start when you have absolutely no idea

You can follow along closely, use the reference as a jumping-off point, or paint something completely different. No experience necessary.

Themed Classes and Open-Ended Painting

Some Studio Oso painting classes are built around a specific theme, season, or event.

You might join us for a beach-inspired painting at the end of summer, a tennis-themed class during the US Open, or another rotating concept designed around what is happening in Brooklyn and NYC. Other classes are much more open-ended.

We’ll provide a selection of painting inspiration, and you decide what you want to create.

That means there is something for everyone, whether you prefer having a clear idea to follow or want the freedom to start with a blank canvas and see where it goes.

Make Something You Want to Put on Your Wall

One of our biggest goals is simple: You should leave with something you actually want to keep.

Traditional painting classes can sometimes become an exercise in trying to copy the instructor perfectly. That can be fun, but it isn’t the only way to learn.

We would rather help you make something that feels personal.

Maybe you change the colors so it works in your apartment. Maybe you simplify the original idea. Maybe you start with our reference and end up somewhere completely different.

Your painting does not have to be perfect. It should feel like yours.

A Different Kind of Paint and Sip in Brooklyn

If you’re looking for a paint and sip in Brooklyn, Studio Oso is a little different from the typical experience. Our classes are social, but the painting still matters.

You can talk, drink, listen to music, and hang out with the people around you while also having the time and support to make something you’re proud of.

Bring your favorite wine, beer, or other drink to enjoy during class. We also have complimentary non-alcoholic beverages available at the studio.

Come with friends, plan a date night, celebrate something, or come by yourself and meet people while you paint. The vibe is relaxed. The creativity is completely up to you.

Small-Group Painting Classes in Brooklyn

We keep our painting classes intentionally intimate so the studio still feels social without becoming chaotic.

That means you can actually talk to the instructor, ask for help, move at your own pace, and enjoy the experience without feeling lost in a huge crowd.

Our goal is for Studio Oso to feel more like a creative gathering than a traditional art class.

You can focus when you want to focus. You can socialize when you want to socialize. And no one is grading your canvas at the end.
