Yoga at Studio Oso

A Brooklyn yoga studio for people who don’t take themselves too seriously

Yoga at Studio Oso is about feeling good in your body, trying something new, and having a space where you don’t need to already be “good at yoga” to belong.

Our yoga studio near the Brooklyn Navy Yard was created with a simple idea in mind: yoga should feel welcoming. You shouldn’t have to know the names of every pose, be incredibly flexible, own the perfect matching set, or feel like you need to keep up with the person next to you.

Whether you’re taking your first yoga class, getting back into a practice after some time away, or already have a regular yoga routine, you’re welcome here.

Our Approach to Yoga

At Studio Oso, we believe movement can be challenging without being intimidating.

Our classes are designed to give you room to explore your practice at your own pace. Instructors offer guidance, options, and modifications throughout class, but there is no pressure to make your body look a certain way or force yourself into a pose.

Some days you might want to challenge yourself. Other days, lying on your mat and taking a few deep breaths might be exactly what you need. Both count.

We want Studio Oso to be the kind of Brooklyn yoga studio where you can show up exactly as you are.

Beginner-Friendly, Not Beginner-Only

If you’ve been searching for beginner yoga classes in Brooklyn, this is a great place to start.

Our classes are approachable enough for someone walking into a yoga studio for the first time, while still giving experienced students opportunities to deepen poses, build strength, and explore their practice.

You never have to worry about being the least experienced person in the room. There is no expectation that everyone moves at the same pace or chooses the same version of a pose. Our instructors encourage you to listen to your body and decide what works for you that day.

At Studio Oso, taking a modification isn’t falling behind. It’s part of practicing yoga.

Less Pressure. More Practice.

Studio Oso started in part because we wanted a space where adults could be bad at something and still enjoy doing it. That philosophy shapes both sides of our studio.

Downstairs, you can pick up a paintbrush without being an artist. Upstairs, you can step onto a yoga mat without being a yogi.

You’re allowed to learn. You’re allowed to wobble. You’re allowed to take a break. Yoga doesn’t have to be another thing you need to perform perfectly. Sometimes the practice is simply showing up.

Small, Welcoming Yoga Classes in Brooklyn

We intentionally keep our yoga classes smaller than many large NYC studios.

That means more space to move, more opportunities to ask questions, and an instructor who can actually see the room.

Our goal is to create a relaxed, community-oriented environment rather than the packed, high-pressure feeling that can sometimes come with yoga classes in NYC.

Come alone, bring a friend, or make Studio Oso part of your weekly routine. You’ll probably start recognizing a few familiar faces.

That’s exactly what we want.

What Our Classes Are Like

Our class schedule includes a mix of yoga experiences throughout the week, from evening flows to slower weekend classes designed to help you reset.

While every instructor brings their own teaching style, Studio Oso classes generally focus on:

  • Thoughtful, accessible movement

  • Strength, mobility, and flexibility

  • Breath and body awareness

  • Options and modifications for different experience levels

  • A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere

  • Leaving class feeling better than when you walked in

No two bodies are the same, so no two yoga practices need to look alike.

Your Practice, Your Pace

You are always encouraged to make class your own.

Want to take the more challenging option? Go for it.

Want to stay in the first version of the pose? Great.

Want to skip something entirely and take child’s pose? Also great.

Our instructors are there to teach, guide, and help you explore. They aren’t there to pressure you into movements that don’t feel right for your body.

We care much more about creating a sustainable relationship with movement than whether you can touch your toes.
